The Role of Blockchain in achieving Electricity Decentralization

The Role of Blockchain in achieving Electricity Decentralization

Electricity consumption has been traditionally served by distribution utilities operated through government regulatory bodies. We never really get to know the place from which the coal was mined that turned the turbine responsible for charging my phone today. If only there was a way to know that today's electricity in my colony was sourced from a sustainable community solar farm operating nearby and not from an old inefficient thermal power plant that emits life-threatening SOx and NOx, I would have preferred to charge my Electric vehicle today and go on that long drive. If only there was a way to price my buying choice and thus give me hold over investment decisions related to my energy procurement, I would have been guilt-free of not destroying this prized planet for the future generations.  The only way forward is an economy that is sensitive to the environment, an economy where all resources have been tagged with their cumulative carbon footprint, an economy where energy buy and sell choices are incentivized to match small pocket consumers with large investors indirectly. Such an energy investment network removes the oil and coal oligarchs (currently planning to be moon and mars settlers) from the equation and thus provides true democratization to the consumer class. We can no more consume energy in ways the oligarchs have forced it upon us as it has really dramatic consequences for the developing world. It creates weather patterns and temperatures that are extreme for a healthy planet to naturally survive. The dramatic temperature shifts can create dramatic quantities of climate refugees struggling to find land to live.

A Blockchain-based energy transaction platform thus addresses such issues of consumer empowerment and builds economic consensus on the adoption of clean sources of energy.

Anthropocene Solutions will jointly co-develop research projects and case studies (with live implementation and demo wherever possible) with energy generators, transmission operators, distribution companies, large and general consumers, the transportation industry and government authorities.

All such research projects, developed knowledge material will thus be publicly available for government authorities, regulators, industry players, etc. to openly adopt, modify and refer to. All co-developed knowledge material will be generated with a not for profit motive while making all relevant research findings available on the platform for common good.

Anthropocene Solutions will act as a research and engagement portal for Blockchain enthusiasts and will forever be open for research, ideation and development in tandem with energy ecosystem development in the specified geography.
